Butterfly on the Prairie

Like a butterfly sitting on an Indian Paint Brush flower on the high-plains prairie of Colorado, this modern home overlooks Pikes Peak with it's mid-century modern flair and features a unique "butterfly roof" as the primary architectural statement supported by simple lines and awe inspiring floor to ceiling glass with expansive views.

The seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living through the use of large sliding glass walls exemplifies the active lifestyle of the owner that enjoys golfing and skiing in Colorado through out the year.

The initial concepts

The home location and room positioning required careful placement to maximize the expansive views and retain as much existing vegetation as possible. Other key considerations included:

  • Circle driveway
  • Courtyard garages that don't directly face the street
  • Clear approach tot he front entry
  • Outdoor living spaces on the front and back of the home to take advantage of micro climates
  • Solar orientations
  • Open floor plan concept
  • Primary Bedroom separated from Secondary Bedrooms
